LAZYTECHNEST.COM –Bluesky, an upstart challenger to Elon Musk’s social platform X, hit a major snag on Thursday as the platform went down, just as thousands flocked to sign up.
The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on users of other social media platforms, who quickly shared their frustration about Bluesky’s downtime.
Downdetector, the online outage tracker, recorded a sharp increase in outage reports, showing a significant spike as Bluesky struggled to accommodate the influx.
According to Downdetector, more than 3,100 users reported issues with Bluesky.
Data revealed that 67% of these reports related to problems with the app itself, while 31% pointed to website navigation challenges.
Meanwhile, 2% of users reported server issues, likely exacerbated by the overwhelming wave of new users.

This surge in users coincided with a recent political event—former President Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. election on November 5, which prompted an exodus of users from X.
Musk’s visible alignment with Trump sparked immediate backlash, spurring notable organizations, like The Guardian and FC St. Pauli, to depart from X.
In the wake of this, many individuals sought out Bluesky as an alternative, possibly triggering the platform’s overload.
Public reactions to the outage were swift.
“All the new Bluesky users racing back to Twitter to say it’s down…” one user joked, hinting at the loyalty Bluesky has yet to cement.
Another user quipped, “Bluesky is down so… how are you all doing in the cess pit that is Twitter?”
Amid the scramble, Bluesky’s technical team now faces a critical moment: overcoming the instability that’s interrupted its appeal as a refuge from Musk’s X.
As social media audiences shift, Bluesky’s performance will determine its standing in a crowded field of new, politically charged platforms.
